New Data Offerings at NRIS!

NRIS is pleased to announce the availability of several new data offerings and web pages.  First of all, we have designed and deployed a 'data access' home page for critical data layers.  These 'framework' data layers form the foundation of the National Spatial Data Infrastructure (NSDI).  This data access page provides a number of points of access for the framework and priority data layers in Montana.  The URL is http://nris.state.mt.us/nsdi/.  Please note that this is a work in progress and will undergo many changes as time progresses.

We have developed two new framework data access pages as part of this effort, one for the Land Use / Land Cover I -team (developed in cooperation with NRCS), and one for for the Census 2000 TIGER Road data.  The new Land Use / Land Cover home page is available at http://nris.state.mt.us/nsdi/landcover/.  It provides access to a variety of activities and available data in this category.  A new section (developed by NRIS) is available here for the USGS National Land Cover Dataset (NLCD).  This web page features the NLCD data in both RASTER and VECTOR formats.

The other new framework related web page is one for Census 2000 transportation data; it is available at http://nris.state.mt.us/nsdi/nris/road2000/road2000.html.  The transportation I-team is busy working on a new statewide data standard for transportation, which will eventually replace the Tiger data, but for now, this provides a ready means of access for available transportation data.

Finally, we've added a new environmental monitoring data layer from DEQ to the NRIS Thematic Mapper.  It includes point locations for permitted septic tank disposal sites in Montana.  These data can be accessed from the NRIS Thematic Mapper under the Environmental Impacts data tab.
