Topofinder II Takes Advantage of New Image Compression Technology
If you have a slow connection, using online mapping applications can be frustrating. Topofinder II now employs a .NET-based compression routine developed by NRIS to drastically speed up image downloading. A simple set of radio buttons allow users to determine the amount of compression to use. Setting image quality lower will greatly speed up the time it takes to download images to the browser.
The quality will be degraded but when you are zoomed way out this probably won't matter at all - even if the quality is set as low as 25%. For most applications, using a setting of medium or high will provide almost as nice an image as the maximum setting. At medium, images will typically load in twice as quickly. You may find that as you zoom in, increasing the quality will make the image more legible.
